Mark,
I wanted to take a minute and thank you for the opportunity you provided to me and my agency. I came away from your training academy with an understanding of how to properly continue my training, how to establish goals during training and most importantly how to achieve those goals. During the two weeks I spent at your academy I also came back with an understanding of how a dog works and why a dog does what it does. Before attending your academy I had handled a k-9 for a little less than a year. During this time I will admit I lacked the confidence to properly handle my k-9 partner. After attending your academy I came away with the attitude that the sky is the limit.

Mark,
I wanted to thank you and Mark Smith for everything involving the purchase and training of K9 Deuce as well as the instruction provided to me during the Narcotic Detector Dog Handler’s Course at your training facility and the Narcotics Detection Seminars you taught at here in New Jersey. There are very few people with more experience and knowledge in the training of drug detector dogs than you and Mark. The Narcotics Detector Dog Handler’s Course in Tennessee was the most informative canine seminar I have attended in my three plus years in canine. Your training facility was great and was an ideal place to learn your training methods and philosophies. I learned all about a drug detector dog’s pre-service, continual maintenance and proficiency training, as well as detailed explanations of narcotic detector dog street operations, canine court considerations and record keeping. I left Tennessee fully understanding goal oriented training as well as proven techniques to maintain my canine partner’s proficiency at finding narcotics. This opportunity also enabled me to pass this methodology on to not only my unit but various other agencies we work with hand in hand here in New Jersey.
As a testament to your training, K9 Deuce has been impressive right from the start. In his first six months on the street he has already found over two and a half million dollars worth of illegal narcotics. K9 Deuce also excelled at the United States Police Canine Association Region 15 Detector Dog Trials. I can’t say enough about how happy I am with K9 Deuce and the training I have received from you and Mark. You guys were great through this whole process and at your training seminars that I have attended. I appreciate everything you have done for me and also for always being on the other side of the cell phone to answer any questions I throw at you.
Thanks Again,
Steve

Positive Response Canines

During the last year I have attended several k-9 seminars and during these times we conducted several training exercises and most of the time had no idea why I was doing that exercise. It was nice to be in a situation where the instructor was explaining what we were doing and why we were doing it. This type of training has allowed me to go back to my agency and implement these training exercises. Goal oriented training is what we have really been going after since we have returned home. This basic principle is overlooked by many but when things are simplified and broke down I’ve found that you can reap the rewards quickly.
It was also great to learn how a dog does what it does. By that I mean after attending your class I am able to describe how a dog will respond to a narcotic odor in an odor noisy environment. I feel that this is one of the most important things that I’ve learned. I personally feel that I can sit on a witness stand and explain to a judge, juror, defense attorney and district attorney why my dog will respond to a pound of marijuana masked with seven pounds of fabric softener sheets. This along with training in regards to record keeping is very important. The methods you taught have been tested and it allows us to have confidence in our documentation allowing us to understand how to dot every I and cross every t. Being taught by someone who has been there and done that is important and most importantly being taught by someone who was successful at doing it.
I feel like the training you provided from the class room and to the field were second to none!! I would like to thank you again for the opportunity you provided! If we can ever be of assistance to you please let us know and I look forward to continuing to learn from you in the future.

A find from tonight on a search warrant. 9 pounds 4 ounces and $2,088 dollars. The marijuana was in a Fresh Step cat litter container with cat litter. Bud did a real good job in finding it. He went into the house with his nose up, right to the kitchen into the scent cone making his way to the Fresh Step cat litter container and went into a positive trained alert. Just thought that you would like this picture, to see how good the dogs are that you train. Thanks again for finding Bud for me. ~ Jason
